Abstract

This article is dedicated to identifying the specificities of the work and professional training of an artistvocalist in musicals — one of the most prominent and sought-after genres of the 21st century. It highlights that the development of the musical as a synthetic genre was influenced by musical theater, opera, operetta, vaudeville, minstrel shows, and burlesque. The emergence of its various forms, such as American, British, French, and domestic musicals, was shaped by the unique characteristics of national compositional schools,
approaches to plot selection, dramaturgical interpretation, and theatrical practices. The article posits that the genre’s versatility imposes distinct and specialized demands on performers. To provide a deeper and more comprehensive understanding of the role of a modern musical artist-vocalist, a professiogram is proposed. This includes an overview of the singer’s work (functions, responsibilities, and tasks) and an analysis of the professional knowledge, skills, and both business and personal qualities required of performers. In order to refine the key directions of professional training for a musical artist-vocalist, the article also examines the core components of their performance activity — vocal, acting, choreographic work, and
the development of stage presence. The article concludes that the creation of a professiogram helps to define the professional requirements for individual educational strategies, improve artistic proficiency, and inform the development of specialized training programs in educational institutions of relevant profile and level, including in the system of primary arts education.
